Westpunt, Curaçao

The quieter side of Curaçao — limestone cliffs, calm coves, and a slower rhythm.

About Westpunt

A sense of place.

Westpunt is what Curaçao looks like when the island exhales. The drive from Willemstad takes the better part of an hour, and that distance is the point — by the time the road narrows and the cliffs start to rise, the rhythm has already shifted.

The west end is residential, weather-shaped, and quiet in the way only a windward coast can be. Mornings begin with the sound of the trade winds against the limestone; afternoons fold into hidden coves with water so clear it reads as glass over coral. The diving is the best on the island — Mushroom Forest, the Blue Room, Watamula — and the snorkelling from shore at Playa Kalki or Lagun is almost as good.

There is no nightlife to speak of, and no resort strip. Dinner is a short drive to a fisherman's cove, or a long table set under a thatched roof at a guesthouse you'll remember the name of. The traveler who comes here is the one who has already done the city and wants the opposite: stillness, salt air, a book that gets finished.
